Hot Scholarships for Fall 2011

Welcome back to CSULB!!  Here is the list of the Hot Scholarships for Fall 2011.   If you are interested in applying for any of these scholarships, please download an application from http://www.csulb.edu/scholarships.  Click on the Hot Scholarships link in the right column.  Please complete the application in MS Word (typed applications only), print, sign and submit to the appropriate office listed on the application.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Have a wonderful fall semester!   

        49er Textbook Scholarship
o        for students who have a financial need for textbooks
o        $250 (50 available)
o        Deadline: October 13, 2011

        Beauchamp Family Scholarship
o        for undergraduates who work at least 20 hours per week and receive no financial aid from federal or state grants
o        $2,500 (1 available)
o        Deadline: October 13, 2011

        Women & Philanthropy Reentry Scholarship
o        for reentry students (25 years old with at least a 5 year gap in education) who are pursuing their first bachelor’s degree
o        $2,000 (Several available)
o        Deadline: November 17, 2011

We are also advertising the following scholarships with early spring deadlines so that you have enough time to complete the application (and can even utilize your free time during Winter Break to apply!).

        Alan T. Nishio Educational Equity Excellence Award
o        for undergraduates who promote educational equity and access through community involvement, campus cultural climate or co-curricular campus activities
o        $500-1,000 (Several available)
o        Deadline: February 9, 2012

        Assistance League of Long Beach Scholarship
o        for undergraduates who are full-time students with a 3.0 GPA
o        $2,000 (Several available)
o        Deadline: February 9, 2012 

Liberal Arts Scholars Program - Deadline Approachin​g

This is just a friendly reminder that the deadline for the Liberal Arts Scholars Program is next Thursday, March 24 at 4:00 p.m.  Here is the link to the application if you are planning to apply.

The Liberal Arts Scholars Program offers two awards: $1,500 for graduate students and $750 for undergraduate students.

To apply for the scholarship, you must be an outstanding CLA senior or graduate student planning to do research with a faculty member for the following academic year at CSULB. You must also maintain a 3.5 GPA overall and a 3.75 GPA in the major and be nominated by a College of Liberal Arts faculty member.

Students interested in applying for this scholarship should download the application or contact Valerie Kelsey at the Center for Scholarship Information at scholarships@csulb.edu for more information.

CSI: Upcoming Scholarship Deadlines

I wanted to send a friendly reminder that the following scholarships are due next Thursday, March 10 at 4:00pm:

• 49er Textbook Scholarship
• Long Beach Rotary Millennium Scholarship
• Osher Reenty Endowed Scholarship
• Phi Delta Gamma - Phi Chapter Award
• Senator Jenny Oropeza Memorial Scholarship
• Tony Ferris Memorial Scholarship
• Van Roussos Memorial Academic Award

FYI - for all you graduate students, we have not received a single application for the Phi Delta Gamma Award. Since there are not as many scholarships for graduate students as there are for undergraduates, don't miss out on a great opportunity!!!

Also, there is another scholarship open to most students with a deadline quickly approaching - next Monday, March 7:

• Ruth R. Guthrie Scholarship

All of these scholarships will be disbursed for Fall 2011 so you must plan to be enrolled in Fall 2011 in order to be eligible for scholarships.  Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  Good luck!!
